Dr. Peter David Phillips will deliver CIN's Tenth Annual Lecture October 29, 2014 at New York’s Schomburg Center For Research in Black Culture

Dr. Peter David Phillips, Jamaica’s Minister of Finance will be the presenter at the Tenth Annual CIN Lecture Series on Wednesday, October 29, 2014 at New York's Schomburg Center for research in Black Culture. The series was created by CIN's CEO Stephen Hill who commented, "The annual lecture attracts capacity crowds and is the unique forum for intellectual dialogue between Caribbean thought leaders and members of the important New York area Caribbean community." This year's speaker is another public leader of major accomplishment.

Dr. Peter David Phillips, the Jamaican Minister of Finance and Planning has enjoyed a distinguished public service resume having served six years as Minister of National Security, Minister of Health between 1995 and 1997, Minister of Special Projects in the Office of the Prime Minister from 1991 to 1994, and Senator and Minister of State in the Office of the Prime Minister between 1989 and 1991.

The Minister of Finance has been successful in bringing fiscal discipline to the government’s finances, which hopefully will set Jamaica on a path to fiscal responsibility. His efforts have been universally applauded, and his performance arguably makes him the most outstanding Minister of Finance since independence. It is thought that the upcoming visit to Jamaica by Christine Lagarde, the IMF President, is in recognition of the leadership that Dr. Phillips has shown in Jamaica’s passing all the IMF tests in the recent Stand By Agreement.
A graduate of Jamaica College, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Economics and a Master of Science in Government from the University of the West Indies.  He received both a Ford Foundation and Fulbright Fellow and completed doctoral studies at The State University of New York at Binghamton, in International Political Economy.

The CIN Lecture Series has become one of the premier Caribbean events in New York, attracting a cross-section of diplomats, media, business and religious leaders and other noteworthy members of the Caribbean community.  Each year the Lecture Series attracts large audiences with each presentation rebroadcast on CINTV reaching the over two million Caribbean-Americans in New York, New Jersey and Connecticut.  For the first time we will stream the lecture live for our worldwide audience.
